This project calls itself „design for peace“ and uses a
peaceful tank in a symbol of peaceful revolution. The message is
conveyed through a graphic design that can be easily understood all
around the world, by all individuals or communities, beyond their own
language, culture and tradition. A peaceful revolution, made by people,
made for people, where the message can be individually interpreted.
After its major success at the 2007 week of design
in Milan, Japanese design for peace project “retired weapons™” came to
Berlin, an icon of peaceful revolution after a long history of
separation and conflict.
The
“retired tank” is the iconic materialization of retired weapons™ , a
Japanese design for peace project launched by Yuji Tokuda (art
director) and Junya Ishikawa (producer) in 2005. Retired weapons™ aims
at spreading a message of peace around the world, a message addressed
to all design loving people who daily embrace peace with mind, heart
and soul.
In 2005, the initial message of retired weapons™ was delivered from Japan. Since then, it has been growing with international fellow members and participants, helping to virtually generate and to circulate the message around the world. Messages wishing for world peace are creatively expressed through various channels: graphics, movies, events, website, cellular phone contents, dialogue, cakes, goods, etc.
