+The Last Will+ project explores and proposes the use of mechanisms that allow citizens to make decisions regarding the provisional use of inner city space: development sites, building sites left idle or publicly owned resources left unused ... and to carry out the initiatives.

The project is developed by Zoohaus Creative Platform and was born as a response to the current economic crisis: as our economic system has been responsible for bringing state backed building development to a standstill due to a lack of budget, we offer a lowcost alternative; this will allow some inner city spaces and sites to be temporarily given back to their users. To achieve the project goals, it is necessary to ensure progress in the areas of communication, interaction and action between temporarily disused sites and inner city spaces and their potential users. The project tries to research ways of “open source” participation to proceed in urban spaces.

It consists of: a blog where all the development work is captured, a collaborative map and a media library. It’s a working launch pad where all the information is free to use and where anyone is able to access and collaborate in this initiative.

2. Actions:

We began organising meetings around several empty spaces in Madrid and placing 'death notices' to symbolise the distress of the local community. Our first big reactivation action was held in Gijón/Xixón, during LABoral SUMMERLAB´09 Workshop , where we placed eleven small projects in different disused and abandoned inner city spaces and organized a bike ride to visit them.

3. Objects:

During next MadridAbiertoFestival, Zoohaus is collaborating with the artist Susanne Bosch in the building of an urban infrastructure which collects citizen’s wills and interacts with them.

It was awarded in 2009 with 1st prize in SOCIAL category in Urbanacción2 contest .
