The Green Code Project wants to promote and establish environmentally friendly practices that will help create an International certification process for the film and media industry. A 2006 UCLA study found that the contribution to nationwide conventional air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions caused by the economic activity associated with the Film and Television Industry in the Los Angeles area is greater than the contribution from several other sectors in the Los Angeles area (aerospace manufacturing, apparel, hotels, semiconductor manufacturing).

Although the emissions per dollar of output or per employee are relatively small, the size of the Film and Television Industry makes it a significant factor. The Green Code wants to address and offer tools to diminish the Film and Television Industry important ecological footprint. (download the report here)
