Brainforest is a Chicago based creative agency, committed to giving back to the community that sustains them. One example of their socially engaged work is the Living with Cancer workbook, a 365-day companion to help patients and families navigate the first year following diagnosis.
The book gives
positive, practical advice on many important topics, including
questions to ask physicians, nutrition and family matters. This piece won several design industry awards and has
been used as a model for Gilda’s Clubs and other cancer support foundations
on the national level.
Brainforest’s goal with pro bono client Gilda’s Club Chicago was to spread the news about this special place where the focus is on living with cancer. One reason Brainforest chooses to work with only one pro bono client every year is to allow us to fully explore opportunities for them. For example in 2002, they applied for and received a Sappi Grant on behalf of Gilda's Club Chicago. This prestigious grant allowed them to produce the Living with Cancer workbook.
