Network 2012 is a social enterprise. An online business and social network and events company with a mission to contribute to the end of homelessness by 2012, the year of the Olympics.
Their aim is to contribute through encouraging social enterprises and business to network through them and pay a small membership fee, which they will use to provide bursaries for those currently excluded from the mainstream to start their own social enterprise.
Doing what business needs to do but helping others in the process!
When mainstream society looks outside of itself to the people on the fringes it seems to only look from a negative perspective and through the stereotypical lenses of benefit fraud, idleness, alcoholism and drug abuse. At Network 2012 their long experience working with people on the fringes, specifically in the homelessness sector tells us something completely different. They see sensitivity, resourcefulness, ingenuity, creativity and above all massive potential. Homelessness is only the tip of the iceberg of this potential. It is the result of a neglectful system that is visible to all of us and we believe deep down we all know that, which is perhaps why homelessness always hovers in the nations consciousness.
At Network 2012 everyone's very strongly motivated to see this potential unlocked. When they are in the position to offer funding we will actively seek out and fund this creativity and ingenuity from the fringe. Muhammed Yunus put it perfectly when he says,
“Conventional banks are based on the principle the more you have the more you get. We reversed that principle. We said the less you have – the higher attention you get”
Network 2012 believes strongly that this is the type of paradigm shift required to end social exclusion.
