The LUNCH CURRIER project is a project for a concept design of a service to provide meals to people working in central urban areas (and have no access to a canteen). The delivery service is provided by people with low employment capability
The project has been developed in a 3 weeks workshop in cooperation with FoKus Folkeoplysning (Aalborg, Denmark), Aalborg University, school of Architecture and Design (Nicola Morelli) andUniversity of Kassel (Prof Wolfgang Jonas and Juliane Munch).
The concept design is based on scenario building: the major critical factors for the success of the service have been driving the scenario. The development of the four service concepts included business considerations and detailed definition of critical service elements, such as ordering, logistics, payment, invoicing, etc.
Background Information
Fokus Folkeoplysning is providing solutions give more opportunities to people with low employment capabilities (people with problems of alchoolis, drugs or migrants having integration problems). A previous project (Kaffe Fair) was employing people with low employment capabilities in a Café, in order to give them more opportunities to learn a job and to have more social interaction. Both the Kaffe fair and the Lunch Curriers employees are paid by the public unemployment scheme and receive a supplement related to their work activity.
The delivery personnel travels on bicycle, therefore the service is meant to cover a limited central area in Aalborg (Denmark). The meal providers are identified among those present in that area.
The Lunch Currier service should be responsible for booking, logistic, delivery, bike repair and the maintenance of a Web Page (under construction) in which the offering from the providers is shown.
Development of the service
So far the service has been developed to a pilot stage with only one provider (Kaffe Fair) and few customers (business in the area).
The bike repair workshop, which should have been a component of the service, works very well. Some consideration has been done, on the possibility to open it to the pubblic, thus encouraging people to come to the workshop and lear how to repair their bike.
