The program links international, national and local artists in an effort to facilitate cross-cultural dialogue through the lens of art and culture.
International artists are invited to work on art projects emerging from their own concept of identity, along with a yearly thematic focus such as water or memory. These art projects are developed in the public realm of the streets and directly involve the people that inhabit that realm.
i d e n t i d a d e s is an artist initiative and was planned as a residency/encounter that could provide a possibility for artists to have a creative exchange and interaction with different environments and a diversity of artistic approaches to life.. To be aware, one more time, that our own identity is what makes us unique and the importance for us to join with the most diverse cultural backgrounds.
This project's aim was to be the start of a continual and growing relationship among artists, communities, cities, cultures, knowing that this will provide an alternative to globalization, which means the isolation of real cultures to establish a big, huge, empty monocultural world.
i d e n t i d a d e s is a project designed to provoke and transform the perception people and institutions have about contemporary art. There is a major need to change and challenge the relationship between society-artists-government and it is our task as artists to offer alternatives. This event aims to be a real alternative that can become a wide bridge between cultures. The artists invited are multidisciplinary who can make work on the street level, with experience on community interaction, and who care about cultural and natural diversity. Media includes visual and interactive arts.
"As an artists collective, we believe in Art’s ability to transform the mind and the world, as well as artists’ need to build always alternative ways to transform themselves. We are breaking that old and useless provincial stereotype of Art as something unreachable, to take it straight where people needs it: the street, the neighbourhood, their own land, so the closeness with the Artwork and the artists can lead to see the multiple possibilities of their own creative possibilities."
