SQUIRL (USA)
Project-ImageProject-ImageProject-Image

Squirl is a part of a new generation of social networking websites that allows users to generate the content, and therefore much of the look and feel, of a site. In Squirl's case, that content is collections that have long been displayed on walls, on shelves, or in basements. In a sense, it allows collectors to become online curators of their own personal museum. Collectors naturally love to share their collections, and Squirl provides a venue for doing so.

Squirl is about showing off the unique items that you already own. And, it doesn’t limit its users to movies, books, music, and games. They’re really trying to build niche communities around any type of object in general.
By using Squirl to catalog and organize their collections, members take advantage of powerful web innovations that make collecting a more social experience. RSS, privacy controls, messaging, and the ability to comment on items and collections make Squirl an attractive and easy way to get involved in the collecting community.
The idea for the site sprang from co-founder John McGrath's frustration at the need for an online service that would let anyone keep a digital copy of their collections, whether it be 3000 45rpm records or Pez dispensers. He joined forces with old friend Steve de Brun in January 2006 to build a solution. Kristy Dahl joined the Squirl team in October 2006. Launched in August 2006, Squirl is fast becoming the internet destination of choice for professional and amateur collectors.
Squirl is a privately held company based in Los Angeles, CA and Portland, ME.
